Visit with Children

Information for Parents

Visit

Children love boats and the museum is a great place to bring them that will be both interesting and educational. They will love exploring the narrowboat cabin, and they will love the horse!

Family Fun Days

Special event days for families are arranged in the school holidays on selected dates. These include a craft activity in the museum on a changing theme and usually short boat trips are available if pre-booked. See the Family Fun Days page

Age and Suitability

We reccommend the museum for children aged six and over. Younger children are welcome but are probably not old enough to enjoy museum visits. Children under 14 years must be accompanied by an adult.

The Activity Zone

Alcove with mock ice cream parlour for children

The Activity Zone is a small area on the ground floor for our youngest visitors. There they can learn through play, using the materials provided, and there is a whiteboard with magnetic letters and canal related images to be used to create artistic effects! There are childrens' books, and things to colour in. There is an ice-cream parlour where children will serve mock ice-cream to their parents!

Supervision

Parents and other adults in charge of children should remember that they are responsible for supervision at all times. Children should not be allowed to tour the building unaccompanied.
